Attention Joint Base Langley-Eustis! We are in the early stages of setting up a MW3 4v4 tournament on 17 March. The PS3 will be the console of choice this time around. A flyer will soon be released with more details. As always this tournament will be open to anyone with base access so spread the word! Thanks!
We’re all used to the typical zombie game. Help survivors and save the day with a happy ending. Right, well forget the hero rules because this time around your going dark side in Capcom’s newest title Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City. ORC takes place in 1998 in between the previous games Resident Evil 2 & 3. Your role in this game gives you a whole new perspective on the series by seeing it from the eyes of a villain! You play as a member of the Umbrella Secret Security delta team. Your mission is to secure evidence that points towards Umbrella corporation involvement with the G-virus sample in the underground lab (the cause of the outbreak) and kill to any survivors. The game is said to be a “What-if scenario” where we will get the chance to answer some unanswered question such as; “What if Umbrella got the upper hand in this fight?”, “What if Umbrella Eliminates its enemies for good?”, and “What if Umbrella wins?”
27 Hours and Counting: Why I don’t feel bad for putting so much time in virtual worlds
After completing my undergrad I have accumulated what I believe to be an incredible 27 hours on just one game over the past month. It may not seem like a lot to you “hardcore” gamer but to someone who hasn’t sat down and played a major release in almost two years it’s a pretty big deal. What game has stolen over a day worth time out of my busy schedule you ask? No, it’s not Skyrim or MW3. Believe it or not it’s none other than BioWare’s Mass Effect 2! Yeah, I know Mass Effect 2 came out January of 2010 on the Xbox 360 but I was occupied with classes and studying for promotion. So, why not cut my losses and conquer a newer title? For one, Mass Effect 2 left a lasting impression on me way back in 2007 and I wanted to continue where that amazing game left off. Playing as the Commander of my own starship, fighting against galaxy destroying aliens, and having my every decision effect the outcome of next game was an awesome experience. Secondly, anyone who knows me knows that I don’t follow a set schedule. If I miss a game I simply add it to my list of titles to pick up once they hit the bargain bin. ↓ Read the rest of this entry…
A stray thought crossed my mind while looking at the news today. If Final Fantasy VII (FFVII) were to be re-released today would the misinformed media jump on its opening theme of terrorism? I feel that this question is valid because of sensational articles involving Grand Theft Auto IV’s violence and Mass Effect 2 sexual themes are the hot topics of recent years. What theme of terrorism? At the beginning of FFVII you are introduced to your protagonist, Cloud Strife, an ex-SOLIDER turned mercenary for hire who has joined a rebel group called ACALANCHE. Your first mission is to raid and destroy one of the Mako reactors (think Nuclear power plant but not really) surrounding the city/capital of Midgar. Of course this is only a small portion of a beautiful story arc that encompasses over 80+ hours of events surrounding anything from; a love triangle, a deadly rivalry, a world-controlling megacorporation, cross-dressing, the end of the world, and arguably the most shocking moment in gaming history. This is my favorite game of all time and possibly yours as well considering 10 million copies have been sold since its January debut back in 1997!
However, all of that awe-inspiring story would be lost on the cable news watching culture that would be told that FFVII glorifies terrorism and villianizes big business. Of course none of the positive aspects of the game will be highlighted because that would mean a journalist would have to sit down and play the game. As gamers we all know that our beloved games are not played before being highlighted in the non-gaming media. Worse yet, those who only gather their news from one source in 1 hour chunks do not understand how to read between the lines or obtain more information on a so-called controversial topic. ↓ Read the rest of this entry…
Fish to birds, water to air, Rapture to Columbia a whole new BioShock is born. This time around fans will not be met with the same environment as they’re pulled from below the ocean, and sent to the skies into the air city of Columbia. Going even farther back in time BioShock Infinite takes place in 1912, fifty years prior to the original BioShock. Players will take control of an ex Pinkerton agent Booker DeWitt who is looking to redeem himself for his previous wrong doings. Booker is finally give the task of rescuing a woman named Elizabeth from a captor in the city. This easy job proves to be arduous seeing as Booker arrives in the middle of a civil war between two factions, The Voice of the People, and The Founders.
I actually can tell the difference between what’s real and in game footage but it’s still a cool trailer nonetheless. Enjoy and see you in line for the midnight release Monday night/Tuesday morning!
This Oct 29th just 4 days after Battlefield 3 is released to the masses. A private Battlefield 3 tournament entitled; “Collateral Damage”, will take place on Joint Base Langley-Eustis. First things first! The tag line that can be seen at the end of this trailer, “Above and Beyond the Call, is a direct shot at MW3 which releases a month later. Will BF3 clip MW3′s wings this fall? I guess our wallets will be the judge of that. Secondly, the compete line to Jay-Z’s “99 Problems” go “If you’re havin’ girl problems I feel bad for son, I’ve got 99 problems but a bitch ain’t one.” The gentleman’s fight between BF3 and MW3 just got real folks! I’m sure the numbers this year will fall in MW3′s path this fall but EA doesn’t seem to care about the battle because they’re trying to win the war.
I’m sure that the bulk of this trailer comes from the PC version. However, after seeing screens from the PS3 and Xbox36o version I have no doubt that the console versions of the game will still look and play amazingly. So I don’t care which platform this game is released on.
The trailer is a montage of different single player campaign scenes pieced together. Lots of high action and explosions to counteract all the pomp and circumstance that surrounds the Call of Duty MW3 trailers that have been released. Look forward to Dog fighting, tank battles, and run and gone action this October!
I cannot wait for our Battlefield 3 tournament on Langley AFB. This game is going to be amazing! For more information please read the sticky post at the top of this blog. Thanks!
